Wharton State Forest
The largest State Forest east of the Mississippi River, offers volunteer opportunities for any interest. Pick your hours, days, and interest. Bass River State Forest
The State Park Service has a formal “Volunteers in Parks”. Recent projects include cleaning dumped trash out of the woods, developing a surfaced trail, removing tree seedlings from the septic field and replanting them, removing invasive species, trimming trails, marking trails w/our flexible trail markers, cleaning up trash from the edges of the lakeshore and weeding the flower beds. Indoor projects include staffing the office phones, filing, making copies of event flyers, signing people up for events, checking campers in and learning the administrative processes of running a state forest. Volunteers 13 yrs. old or under must be accompanied by parent or guardian & volunteers 14 yrs. – 17 yrs. old must have written permission from parent or guardian. Burlington County Library System
Burlington County Library System, is the oldest county library in New Jersey. They seek volunteers (18+) for general clerical work, fund raising, and as members of Friends of the Library organizations. Positions available at the headquarters facility on Pioneer Boulevard in Westampton and at their branches in Bordentown, Browns Mills, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Maple Shade, Medford and Riverton. The Burlington County Municipal Alliance Network
This organization works with, and is funded by, the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and local governments. They plan, coordinate, and conduct alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention activities to benefit communities. There are 28 alliances serving 36 communities in Burlington County. Local events and projects need input and support. They have many volunteer opportunities for adults and groups of supervised teens. Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA), New Jersey Chapter
This is a national non-profit voluntary health agency. Huntington's Disease (HD) is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. The mission of HDSA is to promote and support research directed at discovering a treatment and ultimately a cure for HD; to help HD individuals and their families through support and services at their three NJ clinics located in Stratford, Piscataway, and Newark; and to educate both public and health care professionals about HD. TEAM (Teens Exposing Alcohol Myths) a program of the Burlington County Coalition for Healthy Communities (BCCHC), administered by Prevention Plus of Burlington County, Inc., TEAM is a task force of teens whose mission is to "change the behaviors, attitudes, and environments of teens regarding alcohol use throughout Burlington County". Pedals for Progress
Provides basic transportation to the poorest people of the developing world with the Mid-Atlantic region’s surplus bikes. More than 11,000 bikes are shipped each year to 20 nations in Central and South America, coastal Africa, the Caribbean & Pacific Isles, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Bicycle Collection Managers and Helpers (14+) - Schedule: 3-5 hours on Saturdays through spring and fall (April and May, September and October) Task: Work with volunteer groups and Pedals for Progress staff conducting scheduled one-day bike collection events. Duties include assisting civic, church, scout or school groups in preparation of donated bikes for shipping. Trinity Hospice
Two types of volunteer opportunities available: Patient Care Volunteers provide companionship to a patient and respite for patients caregivers. To do this, the volunteer typically makes friendly visits, reads to the patient, runs errands, and sometimes prepares light meals. Many times the most important service that a volunteer offers is simply being there for the patient and caregivers to listen, or to share quiet moments; and Administrative Volunteers provide volunteer services for specific assignments in the hospice. Examples are special projects, office filing, copying, computer work, letter writing or for those who choose, could be trained to provide bereavement support. Volunteers must be least 16 years of age, emotionally mature and compassionate. The volunteers must be able to work as a team player must demonstrate commitment to the hospice philosophy of care.
