We are excited that you're considering BCIT for your high school education and hope this page provides you with the information you need. Please note that students entering the 11th or 12th grade are only eligible for admission if they have previously been enrolled in another career and technical high school.

Admission Criteria & Procedure

The Burlington County Institute of Technology is committed to providing high-quality technical and vocational education to Burlington County students. Given the unique nature of our programs and instructional approaches, applicants are expected to provide academic and behavioral records demonstrating their readiness for the demands of technical and vocational courses and their ability to thrive in a nontraditional classroom environment.

Applicants must meet the following criteria and adhere to the outlined admissions procedure.

Criteria for Admission

Applicants must:

• Be eligible for promotion to the grade they are applying for.

• Pass a review of their current and previous year's report cards.

• Maintain an acceptable behavioral record for the current and previous school years.

• Demonstrate regular school attendance for the current and previous years.

• Show proficiency on the BCIT Entrance Exam and standardized test scores.

Students with accommodations may receive additional time, calculator usage, and text-to-speech support per IEP or 504 plans. Disclosure of these documents is voluntary and will not be used to determine acceptance.

Note: Applicants to the Academy of Performing Arts must meet these criteria and pass an audition for their chosen major (dance, theater, or instrumental/voice).

Procedure for Application

Online Application Instructions:

To avoid delays, ensure that you complete all required fields.

Submit the following documents for the 2023-24 and current 2024-25 school years:

• Report Cards: The most recent report card is from 2024-25, and the final report card is from 2023-24. (Note: If the report card includes attendance records, that will be sufficient, and you do not need to submit separate attendance records.)

• Attendance Records: (Only if not already included in the report card) Current attendance record for the 2024-25 year and final attendance record for the 2023-24 year.

• Discipline/Behavior Records: We require current records for 2024-25 and final records for 2023-24. If no records exist, a signed statement on school letterhead from a school official confirming no behavioral issues will suffice, or a copy of the discipline records showing no disciplinary infractions. If there were incidents, we require detailed information on the nature of the incidents and the resolutions.

• Standardized Test Scores: (e.g., NJSLA, TerraNova).

• NJ State Student ID: Provide the 10-digit NJ State Student ID.

• Birth Certificate: Legible copy of the birth certificate.

Additional Documents (if applicable):

• Custody Agreement.

• Copy of IEP and/or 504 Plan (disclosure of these documents is voluntary and will not be used in determining acceptance, but is helpful for arranging appropriate accommodations if the student is accepted). This will be required if a student has received a conditional acceptance letter.

Release of Records: All applicants are required to submit a Release of Records form as part of the application process. This release allows BCIT to communicate with the sending district if additional information is needed during the admissions process.

Important Note: It is the parent/guardian’s sole responsibility to ensure that all required documents are uploaded to the online application. While some schools may upload documents directly to the application on your behalf, others do not. Please check with your school’s guidance office to confirm their process. If your school does not upload the documents, you must obtain them and upload them to the application yourself before submission. Please note that we will not accept documents sent via email.

Once the BCIT Admissions Office receives an application, parents/guardians will receive an email with the entrance exam details. Entrance exams will be held monthly starting in December.

Homeschool Applicants

BCIT welcomes applications from homeschooled students, who must follow the same admissions process as all other applicants. The only difference is that for homeschooled students, the parent is considered the school and must supply the necessary documentation. Parents are required to provide the following:

• Attendance and Discipline Records: These can be submitted in the form of a letter from the parent, as they are responsible for maintaining these records.

• Academic Records: If the parent utilizes a third-party online program for academics, they must submit the academic records directly from the online program.

• Previous School Information: If the student attended a public or private school in the previous year, we require academic, attendance, and discipline records from that school.

Homeschooled students will be evaluated equally based on their academic, attendance, and behavioral records, just like any other applicant.

Application Completion

Please note that an application is not considered complete until all required documents are submitted and the student has taken the admissions exam. Any application missing the required documents or without a completed admissions test will be considered incomplete.

Decisions will be made beginning the first week of March. We will continue to accept applications and offer admission on a rolling basis until all available seats are filled.

After all requirements (documents and testing) are completed, an evaluation will be conducted, and applicants will receive an admission decision the first week of March.

If accepted, the applicant will be required to submit an additional Release of Records form to allow BCIT to collect cumulative records, health/medical records, final grades, IEP (if applicable), and 504 plan (if applicable).

If accepted, the applicant will also be assigned to a campus based on their town of residence. Please see the Campus Assignment of Students by Municipality for more information.

Career Exploration Tool

To assist with selecting the most suitable career exploration program at BCIT, we recommend that all applicants complete the CareerOneStop Interest Assessment. This tool is designed to help students explore different career paths that align with their strengths and interests. Completing this assessment will provide valuable insights and guide students in choosing the right career exploration opportunities at BCIT.
