PARCC - Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers
PARCC, the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, is a group of states working together to develop a set of modern assessments that measure whether students are on track to be successful in their college and their careers. These next-generation, computer-based assessments are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that were adopted by the state of New Jersey in 2010.  These assessments in Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy will give teachers, schools, students, and parents better information about whether students are on track in their learning and for success after high school.

PARCC tests will measure:
  • What it takes for students to succeed in entry-level, college courses and relevant technical courses, and
  • The knowledge, skills, and practices students performing at a given level are able to demonstrate at any grade.
Several design changes have been implemented to streamline the assessments:
  • The test is shorter by about 90 minutes overall (60 minutes in Mathematics; 30 minutes in English Language Arts/Literacy).
  • Fewer test sessions - now only six or seven test sessions for students, compared to eight or nine in the past.
  • One testing window instead of two.
